Aerospace Engineer (NASA Force) (Direct Hire)
Summary Serves as an Aerospace Engineer involved with managing space and aeronautical flight systems, vehicles, and/or payloads, including design, development, testing, and operations.
As part of NASA Force , you will tackle mission-critical challenges, working across disciplines to advance NASA's exploration, research, and technology priorities, contributing to high-impact projects that support human spaceflight and scientific discovery.
Work will vary by Center's role and mission responsibilities.
Duties
Help
- Performs project management for space and aeronautical systems, vehicles, and/or payloads such as: design and operational requirements definition; hardware/software development; managing testing, safety, integration, certification or operations.
- Investigates phenomena encountered in aerospace flight, monitoring and analyzing unknown or unfamiliar aerospace vehicles, piloting aerospace vehicles, and/or developing aviation safety standards and regulations.
- Develops, tests, evaluates, researches, operates, maintains, remodels, and/or decommissions aircraft and/or spacecraft.
- Performs multiple functions such as planning, research, design, development, test and evaluation, cost analyses, program and project management.
- Conducts specialized studies on flight vehicles, which may include overall and individual major systems components, and additional airborne equipment encompassed in the structure, to ensure their safety, suitability, and effectiveness in operation.
- Works alongside internal/external aerospace engineers to incorporate new technologies, improve reliability, extend the life of an aerospace vehicle, and/or reduce total ownership costs, as needed.
- Tracks contractor and team member progress against project plans, ensuring all work meets quality standards and complies with contractual requirements where applicable.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level:
- Performing program/project management of space, aeronautical flight systems or experimental aircraft/aircraft systems that involve planning, researching, designing, developing, testing and evaluating, or completing cost analyses;
- Analyzing, designing, or operating space flight systems, aeronautical flight systems, experimental aircraft/aircraft systems, or structures operating throughout the earth's atmosphere;
- Developing requirements and integrating aerospace or flight/ground systems (e.g., payloads, hardware/software, scientific instruments, communication equipment, cargo, or any other specialized equipment).
