The School

Housed within the College of Health Sciences at Boise State University, the School of Social Work prepares graduates in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest for beginning and advanced social work practice. The BSW program is offered in Boise as well as Twin Falls, and the MSW program is offered in Boise as well as Coeur d’Alene. Our programs are rigorous and transformative, and faculty provide a comprehensive and hands-on education. Curriculum includes a liberal arts perspective informed by recognition of the critical importance to social work education and practice of cultural, political, and socio-historical contexts; skills in communication, reasoning, analysis and critical thinking and inquiry; understanding of human behavior; and scientific method. Being a part of the College of Health Sciences provides numerous opportunities for collaborative interdisciplinary research and educational programing. Today the School has the largest graduate program at the University. The 280 undergraduate students and 539 graduate students (89 face-to-face and 450 online) are served by 23 full time faculty. In addition to the undergraduate BSW program, the School also offers both the Full-Program MSW and the Advanced Standing MSW options. All social work programs have been reaffirmed for accreditation through February 2026 by the CSWE.

In the face of significant uncertainty and economic disruptions, the university still received more than $58.5 million in gifts, exceeding the record set in fiscal year 2022 by $2 million.
