SmartHRCheqs is committed to accuracy, compliance, exceptional client service, and utilizing advanced technology solutions to deliver high-quality background screening services.</p> <h2>Position Summary</h2> <p>The Background Investigator is responsible for conducting comprehensive pre-employment screening and background investigations while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This role requires strong investigative abilities, analytical thinking, communication skills, and attention to detail in a fast-paced remote work environment.</p> <h2>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</h2> <ul data-spread="false"> <li>Conduct pre-employment screening and background investigations</li> <li>Process background investigations through fax, email, and the Alliance applicant portal system from initial receipt through completion</li> <li>Review and analyze assignments, identify gaps in information, and evaluate investigative findings</li> <li>Maintain familiarity with applicable laws and regulations including FCRA, NYC FCA, NYS FCRA, 23A Disclosure requirements, and other applicable state laws</li> <li>Communicate professionally with in-house staff, current and prospective clients, vendors, researchers, courts, and applicants through written and verbal communication</li> <li>Educate current and potential clients regarding background investigations and company services</li> <li>Assist with up-selling additional searches and services to clients and employers when appropriate</li> <li>Maintain familiarity with the TazWorks platform and all related system functions</li> <li>Complete various searches including criminal, civil, employment, education, professional reference verifications, E-Verify, social media, drug screening, and CBSV searches on applicants, subcontractors, and organizational officers</li> <li>Perform extensive phone work to complete verifications and provide clients with file updates</li> <li>Review, interpret, and enter criminal record results into the TazWorks platform and explain findings to clients when necessary</li> <li>Contact criminal courts, civil courts, and vendors to obtain status updates on searches</li> <li>Compile complete and accurate reports for clients including verbal and written explanations as needed</li> <li>Conduct quality control reviews on all completed files</li> <li>Participate in daily huddles, team meetings, and continuous industry education</li> <li>Maintain familiarity with division sales metrics and performance goals</li> <li>Obtain and maintain FCRA certifications</li> <li>Perform additional duties as assigned as business needs evolve</li> </ul> <h2>Qualifications</h2> <ul data-spread="false"> <li>Strong verbal and written communication skills</li> <li>Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail</li> <li>Strong analytical and investigative abilities</li> <li>Ability to multitask and manage deadlines effectively</li> <li>Comfortable with extensive phone communication</li> <li>Ability to work independently in a remote environment</li> <li>Experience in background investigations, screening services, customer service, or administrative support preferred</li> <li>Familiarity with TazWorks or similar background screening platforms preferred</li> <li>Knowledge of background screening laws and compliance standards preferred</li> </ul> <h2>Compensation</h2> <ul data-spread="false"> <li>Pay: $21.00 per hour</li> <li>Remote position</li> </ul> <h2>Benefits</h2> <ul data-spread="false"> <li>401(k) matching</li> <li>Employer-paid contribution toward health insurance</li> <li>Employer-paid contribution toward life insurance</li> <li>Paid time off</li> <li>Dental insurance available at employee cost</li> </ul>
