This is a unique role that partners with corporate and business unit teams during the estimating, contracting, and invoicing processes and is considered an essential strategic contributor to the business.<br><br>This role is fully remote. it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned</i></p><br><p><b>Position Responsibilities and Duties:</b></p><p>Compliance & Reporting</p><ul><li>Support the preparation, review, and timely filing of indirect tax returns (sales & use tax, withholding taxes related to indirect tax, property taxes, etc.)</li><li>Ensure correct tax treatment of construction contracts, including long-term contracts, percentage of completion billing, advance payments/deposits, and change orders</li><li>Monitor compliance across multiple jurisdictions, sites, and project entities</li><li>Maintain accurate indirect tax accounting and reconciliations</li></ul><br><p>Contract Advisory & Project Support</p><ul><li>Advise project, procurement, and commercial teams on indirect tax implications of construction contracts, operation & maintenance agreements, and subcontracting arrangements</li><li>Review contract language for appropriate sales tax treatment and ensure appropriate protections based on tax responsibilities of the parties</li><li>Assist in validating data and proper calculation and collection of sales tax in all states utilizing third-party tools such as Avalara</li><li>Review project estimates for sales and use tax implications</li><li>Analyze state and local taxability by project and contract</li></ul><br><p>Tax Technical Research & Analysis</p><ul><li>Perform tax technical research related to sales and use tax and other indirect tax matters</li><li>Document tax research, analysis and conclusions</li><li>Effectively communicate tax positions to business and operations teams</li><li>Develop internal tax policy documents</li></ul><br><p>Risk Management & Audits</p><ul><li>Manage indirect tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, as assigned</li><li>Identify, assess, and mitigate indirect tax risks related to construction projects</li><li>Implement internal controls and processes to ensure consistent tax treatment across projects</li></ul><br><p>Process Improvement & Systems</p><ul><li>Improve sales and use tax determination and accrual processes within ERP and procurement systems</li><li>Maintain exemption certificate management processes and documentation</li><li>Support implementation and optimization of tax engines (e.g., Vertex, Avalara) where applicable</li><li>Build automation and digitalization tools where possible</li></ul><br><p>Stakeholder Management</p><ul><li>Train and support finance, procurement, and project teams on indirect tax awareness and compliance</li><li>Collaborate closely with finance, legal, and operations teams</li><li>Timely and responsive communications with stakeholders</li></ul><br><p><b>Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:</b></p><ul><li>B.S in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or Law (MS, JD, or CPA preferred)</li><li>10+ years of indirect tax experience, ideally within construction, engineering, or renewables</li><li>Strong knowledge of <span style="overflow-wrap: break-word; display: inline; text-decoration: inherit; hyphens: auto;">construction-specific</span> tax issues (e.g., mixed supplies, cost-plus contracts, subcontractor taxation)</li><li>Experience handling indirect tax audits and working with tax authorities</li><li>Familiarity with ERP systems</li><li>Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills</li><li>Ability to interpret complex construction contracts and translate them into correct tax treatment</li><li>Excellent and timely communication and stakeholder management skills</li><li>Customer service approach to internal stakeholders and external project owners</li><li>Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple competing project priorities with frequent <span style="overflow-wrap: break-word;
