REPORTS TO: Head of School

DEPARTMENT: Lower School

STATUS: 10-month, exempt position; Academic Calendar: August-May

HOURS: School year hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; Attendance at some night and weekend school events is required.

Atlanta Academy is an independent Preschool–8th grade school serving students in North Fulton. Our Preschool is NAEYC accredited, and Atlanta Academy is proud to be a 2017 and 2024 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award winner. Located in Roswell, GA, we are seeking a dynamic Lead Preschool Teacher to join our team.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position is responsible for instructing students in a private school environment from grades Jr K - 3rd Grade. Creates lesson plans, administers praise and constructive criticism, instructs students on subjects within the curriculum outlined for the particular grade level, and creates a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position will work closely with the administrative team, faculty, parents, and students to accomplish the essential duties and responsibilities noted below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Obtain and maintain the required certification

● Ensure the safety of each child enrolled in the class whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in common areas.

● Maintain regular observation and evaluation of children’s development and progress as directed by the administration.

● Complete weekly lesson plans.

● Accept and maintain responsibility on a daily basis for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and cleanliness of the learning environment of the classroom.

● Plan and implement age and developmentally-appropriate classroom practices that will include the areas of physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of the young children.

● Serve as a role model for the children in the areas of attitude, speech, and actions on a daily basis.

● Treat each child with dignity and respect for his/her cultural background.

● Encourage children’s development in the areas of building self-confidence, problem-solving, and taking responsibility for their actions.

● Be consistent, but lovingly enforce classroom discipline plan.

● Respect the cultural differences and socioeconomic diversity of all parents.

● Communicate with parents on a regular basis as determined by administration through the reports and emails.

● Attend all scheduled staff meetings and pre-planning sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

● A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field.

● A valid Teaching Certificate

● Ability to describe problems and work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.

● Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

● Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

● Ability to take initiative and problem-solve job-related issues.

● Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.

● Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.

● Organizational and time management skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Consistently able to observe and respond to children’s needs, emergencies, and/or conflicts that might occur in the classroom, on the playground, and/or in common areas.
  • Consistently able to supervise children outside while exposed to the sun, rain, and/or weather and temperature changes.
  • Consistently able to kneel or crouch down to maintain eye contact at child’s level.
  • Consistently able to establish clear communications orally and in writing to children, parents, co-workers, and administration.
  • Consistently able to deal effectively with the demands involved in working closely with children, parents, coworkers, and administration.
