Role Summary

Rivian is hiring to build electric vehicles in the Bloomington-Normal area. Team Members with many different backgrounds and work experience are learning about building EVs and growing meaningful careers in EV production. We are committed to skill development and providing opportunities for career growth.  This position is located in Normal, IL. Team Members report directly to a Group Leader of the shop area.


Responsibilities

  • Working together with your team to assemble or attach vehicle components, which includes cross-training and performing work as a Team Member in each department (Stamping, Drive Unit, Battery, Body, General Assembly, Paint, End of Line and Production Control).      
  • Position or align components and parts with vehicles on the assembly line          
  • Put together parts to build more complex units               
  • Read and understand assembly instructions and follow established production procedures               
  • Gather all material and equipment needed for your role             
  • Check output to ensure highest quality               
  • Maintain equipment in good condition through routine checks, cleaning, and basic autonomous care to ensure reliable operation          
  • Keep records of production quantities and time required           
  • Report issues, malfunctions, or defective parts
  • Apply problem-solving skills to maintain a high standard-of-quality       
  • Produce to the Standard Operating Procedures, and clearly identify irregularities that may cause damage or inefficiency     
  • Suggest alternatives or improvements to processes for your team and other teams   
  • Ability to learn and operate a Forklift  

Qualifications

  • Strongly preferred 6 months consistent work experience
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions 
  • Ability to work safely and have a focus on quality 
  • Passion for team and individual success 
  • High School degree (or GED) preferred
  • Ability to stand 8-12 hours per day and lift up to 50 lbs 
  • Some manufacturing, retail, or food service experience preferred, but not required 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English and be able to read and interpret English-language documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to alternate between standing and walking 8-12 hours per day   
  • Ability to climb steps to access platforms and workstations        
  • Manual dexterity to grasp and manipulate materials     
  • Able to position one’s body to access and assemble materials (bending squatting/stooping/kneeling/reaching below waist and above shoulder). 
  • Additionally, Team Members are expected to cross-train and perform work in each department and are therefore expected to be able to meet the pushing and pulling requirements for each department, which include (Push/Pull):   
    • Stamping: 50 lbs. / 50 lbs.         
    • Drive Unit: 35 lbs. / 60 lbs.        
    • Battery: 60 lbs. / 35 lbs.             
    • Body: 35 lbs. / 70 lbs.  
    • GA: 43 lbs. / 80 lbs.      
    • Paint: 21 lbs. / 15 lbs.  
    • EOL: 18 lbs. / 35 lbs.    
    • LOC: 45 lbs. / 35 lbs.

The salary range for this role is $23.00 for Illinois based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.
 
The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and for a shift differential on top of base hourly pay in accordance with the Company’s shift differential pay schedule.
