Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of Universal Health Services (UHS), is excited to announce the opening of our new Foggy Bottom Clinics in October 2025, located at Cedar Hill Medical Center in Washington, DC. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission of enhancing community health and wellness.

 

About IPM: Founded in 2012, IPM is the physician services unit of UHS, specializing in developing and managing multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics. We align with UHS acute care facilities and provide select services for the Behavioral Health division. With operations in 11 markets across six states and the District of Columbia, our team is committed to delivering exceptional care and fostering healthy communities.

 

 

Medical Assistant

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure cleanliness and stock of patient rooms, nursing stations, and storage areas; manage product expiration dates and maintain equipment cleanliness according to infection prevention standards.
  • Distribute referrals to physicians and insurance companies; maintain accurate documentation in patient charts.
  • Pre-authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) as needed.
  • Handle phone/faxing of patient prescriptions.
  • Schedule diagnostic imaging studies, BMDs, dietician appointments, cardiology testing, and radiology testing; complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Communicate lab results to patients and send letters as required.
  • Perform clinical duties including triaging patients, checking vitals, administering injections and venipunctures, and preparing patients for physician exams.
  • Conduct clinical testing such as EKG, PFT, PAP, CLIA waived lab tests, ear irrigations, O2 sats, vision/color charts, and urinalysis/hemoccult tests according to physician orders; maintain QC logs per CLIA guidelines.
  • Label patient specimens and complete lab slips accurately; manage monthly lab slip separation.
  • Complete patient information forms accurately before physician meetings; assist physicians with charts as needed.
  • Adhere to IPM Safety and Quality guidelines.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.

Work Experience:

  • Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or one year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology required.
  • Experience with patient check-in and check-out process (according to clinic protocol).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • General medical office procedures.
  • Understanding of end of day cash balancing and charge reconciliation process (according to clinic protocol).
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to perform courteously and professionally in all interactions.

Equipment Operated:

  • Office equipment such as fax machine, copier, and telephone system.
  • EKG machine and other patient care testing equipment.
