Political Administrator - Reform UK Group

Location: Westminster, London

Employment Type: 1 year fixed term contract (also open to internal candidates and secondments from councils)

About us

The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.

We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.

We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.

We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community to this high-profile role.

About the role

Reform UK has grown rapidly in local government, winning councillors and councils across the country. To support this growth, the party is now establishing a Group Office at the Local Government Association for the first time. This new office will play an important role in supporting Reform councillors, coordinating activity across the group, and ensuring their voice is effectively represented within the LGA.

As Political Administrator, you will provide the essential administrative and organisational support that keeps the Group Office running smoothly. Working closely with the Head of Group Office and liaising directly with Reform councillors, Lead Members, and Peers, you will help coordinate meetings, manage information flows, and ensure councillors are well supported in their roles.

This is a varied and fast-paced role, covering everything from preparing agendas and tracking actions to linking councillors with LGA programmes and sector support offers. It is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills and a positive, flexible approach to gain direct experience of working in a high-profile, member-facing environment.

About you

We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable, and proactive — someone who takes pride in keeping things running smoothly and ensuring that colleagues and councillors are well supported. You will be confident handling day-to-day administrative tasks, comfortable managing competing priorities, and able to keep track of actions and details in a busy office environment.

You will bring clear communication skills, good attention to detail, and confidence using IT systems to support meetings, correspondence, and information sharing. You will work effectively with councillors, colleagues, and partners, showing professionalism, courtesy, and discretion at all times.

Above all, you will want to contribute to the success of something new and important. By supporting the Head of Group Office and Reform UK councillors, you will help establish the party’s first ever Group Office at the LGA, making sure it is efficient, well organised, and a valued point of support for members from the very start.

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

To apply

If you would like to be considered for the role, please complete the online form and include a supporting statement detailing how you meet the criteria for the role before the closing date.

  1. Previous administrative experience and knowledge of office systems and procedures, ideally gained in a member services, councillor support, or project-based environment.
  2. A broad understanding of local and/or central government and how they work, particularly the role of councillors.
  3. Experience of organising meetings, events, or other activities.
  4. Good communication skills, with the ability to accurately summarise and convey information, verbally and in writing.
  5. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines, maintaining order and accuracy.
  6. Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn new packages quickly.

Closing Date: 5pm, 1 October 2025
