Our environmental sustainability focus areas include achieving net-zero by 2040 in line with the latest science, and progressing towards a circular economy, including researching and developing a Circular F1 Car.</p> <p>We take a science-based and data-led approach to assessing and managing our environmental impact. Our work on sustainability touches all areas of McLaren Racing, from the factory floor, to our commercial operations, to corporate.</p> <p><b><strong><u>Role Dimensions:</u></strong></b></p> <p>This role is a 12-month placement focusing on supporting projects related to the Circular F1 Car programme, as well as supporting improvements to our environmental data collection process and annual sustainability data reporting.</p> <p>You will contribute to cross-functional environmental sustainability projects, improving material sustainability in factory processes, supporting circular material trials, reducing waste, and increasing recycling rates. You will work closely with manufacturing teams across Composites, Metals and Additive Manufacturing, supporting on sustainability matters.</p> <p>Based in Woking across the McLaren Technology Centre and the McLaren Racing Composites factory, this role requires flexibility and an agile working style. Workload will include approximately 25% responding to ad-hoc requests and emerging priorities with agility and a winner’s mindset.</p> <p><b><strong><u>Principal Accountabilities:</u></strong></b></p> <p>You’ll be a key member of our cross-functional Sustainability team, supporting a wide range of activities as needed across McLaren Racing, from technical to commercial. Your work will generally be centred around two themes:</p> <p><b><strong>Circular F1 Car programme</strong></b></p> <ul> <li>Supporting the Circular Economy Specialist with delivery and impact tracking of circularity improvement projects across operational teams (Design, Production, R&D, and Car Build).</li> <li>Conducting material flow mapping, tracing material waste through McLaren Racing’s factory and on to end-of-life through our waste supply chain.</li> <li>Researching circularity initiatives across material use, factory processes, and recycling opportunities.</li> <li>Tracking supply chain environmental impacts and supporting supplier engagement.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><b><strong>Environmental data and insights</strong></b></p> <ul> <li>Supporting the Sustainability team in delivering high-quality data and actionable insights for McLaren Racing’s Circularity Metric and greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint, establishing automation where possible.</li> <li>Liaising with individuals around McLaren Racing to identify & collect environmental data.</li> <li>Cleaning, aggregating, formatting, analysing and visualising data to support reporting and responding to ad-hoc requests from the business.</li> <li>Supporting GHG audit and assurance.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <h2 style="font-weight: 500">Job requirements</h2> <p><b><strong><u>Knowledge, skills and experience:</u></strong></b></p> <p><b><strong>Essential</strong></b></p> <ul> <li>Keen interest in environmental sustainability and its application in engineering, design and production.</li> <li>An appetite to pick up technical knowledge at a fast pace.</li> <li>Understanding of environmental considerations and impacts in manufacturing, operations, facilities, or factory processes.</li> <li>Relevant training or qualifications in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, material science, or design (either completed or in-progress).</li> <li>Proficiency with data management and analysis software, at minimum Excel, Python experience highly desirable.</li> <li>Experience working with large, complex data sets.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.</li> <li>Clear communication skills, ability to explain complex qualitative information to non-technical stakeholders.</li> </ul> <p><b><strong> </strong></b></p> <p><b><strong>Desirable</strong></b></p> <ul> <li>Foundational knowledge of environmental topics, e.g. climate science and waste management.</li> <li>Knowledge of environmental assessment and management techniques, e.g. carbon accounting, life cycle assessment.</li> <li>Proficiency with more advanced data manipulation and analysis tools, e.g. Alteryx, Google BigQuery, Power BI, AI tools.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><b><strong>What can McLaren offer?</strong></b></p> <p>We constantly strive to be better tomorrow than we are today.
